Lewis and Clark Montana Adventure
Special Events

The Lewis & Clark Expedition was the greatest land exploration ever sponsored by the United States Government. In addition to being the first Americans to cross the continent in search of a water route to the Pacific Ocean, they also kept extensive records of their travels. In their journals, Lewis and Clark made many of the first scientific descriptions of American flora and fauna, as well as detailed accounts of Indian nations, their languages and customs. With the help of the journals, almost 200 years later, we know what they saw, experienced, thought, and accomplished.

In the spring of 1805, Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and the Corps of Discovery first entered what is now the state of Montana, after a long and arduous winter with the Mandan and Hidatsa Indians in what is now North Dakota. They covered more miles in Montana than in any other state and had some of their most dramatic experiences here.

Join us on this exciting adventure as we follow the path of the great explorers through parts of the beautiful state of Montana, by car, foot and boat. Many places in the region explored by Lewis and Clark look, at first glance, much as they did 200 years ago. Others do not. Our historian guides will bring history to life for you. You will gain insight into the past as well as present issues of this remarkable region.
